Pune Traffic police have implemented ‘Smart Cop’ application, developed by a city based software company. Traffic police have been given Blackberries which are linked to a vehicle database and also to a database containing list of vehicles which are reported as stolen. The police can input the registration number of suspicious vehicles and find out details using their blackberries, and take necessary action! This has been a HUGE success, and lots of stolen vehicles have been retrieved!!
While in Bangalore, I saw Bangalore cops using a similar application too.
Way to go!! It would take another 50 years to implement it in a pan-Indian setting
